Clearing cob webs again

So what's up w everyone? Busy with projects and new baby? =P

Let's talk about movies. I lost the 'energy' to 'critic' since the last post. Partly due to the hectic work that only ended in Dec.

The big one - Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire. This is the 4th installment of the series. I realised it is no fun when you already know the plot of the story but yet it is exciting to look out for the clues. I find this is better then the previous 2, first one is still the best. This one has lotsa action, excitement and magic. Its fun, until it gets darker. The book or the movie? The book is still the best. If they plan to do book 5 and/or 6, I doubt it'll be a good movie cos it is not a "happy" story already. The series has moved into a more adult and darker storyline, since the Dark Lord has re-borned. However, it is still thrilling to see the effects and magic. The actors in this movie were great. They are the catalysts to bring out the story and emotions. Teenagers were not as great but the support adult actors were great to watch. I rate 4/5.

The arty one - Saving Face. Essentially about "losing face" in the context of a traditional Chinese culture in America. It is easy to relate to this movie coming from a traditional Chinese family. Imagine the kind of response our parents or relatives would have if you are pregnant out of wedlock. To make matter worse, you are a mid-40 yrs old widow. How about being a lesbian in such a community? You face the rejections and the control of your parents trying to change you inorder to fit in. At the end of the day, it takes courage to face up to what you truely is and want. Enjoyable ride watching the movie. Joan Chen was gorgeous and awesome, the lesbians were pretty and one of them (Michelle) was nominated in the recent Golden Horse (but lost to the sausage lips). This is not for homophobics, esp when there's a short lesbian bedscene. An easy movie to watch and digest, 4/5.

The weird one - The History of Violence. Starring, Arragon from Lord of the Rings!! He is a great actor and he still is. This movie is about, put it simply, violence. The plot was usual and predictable. The sex scenes were good. And the cinematography was commendable. There were no conversation during the last 5 mins of the movie but the emotions acted by Arragon and his wife were very clear to interpret. Thanks to the rating, otherwise the sex scenes might be chopped! *gasped* Such a simple story was quite well played out. The simplicity background of the movie was very well established. Infact, I think the show is rather realistic. Not the usual hooligan, "godfather" mafia, big guns, type of movie. Its pretty gory, bloody and violent. Not for the faint hearted. 2.5/5

At the end of the year, there's a movie that is stuck to my head. Batman Begins. I find that it is the best Batman movie, the best super-hero movie, the best action movie. Now I name it the best movie of my year.
